Meet Theta Tau

At Theta Tau, we are proud to be both Tar Heels and Carolina Zetas! Founded in 1979, our chapter has been home to some of the most genuine and talented women at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Membership in ZTA not only brings with it countless memories and experiences which will shape its members for years to come, but also a sisterhood that cannot be broken and an experience of a lifetime.

Our members are incredibly invested in their campus involvement, community outreach, service to Breast Cancer Awareness and Education, academics, sisterhood, and much more. Feel free to look around our site and see how truly amazing it is to be a Zeta. ZTA is a lifetime of commitment, support, and opportunity awaiting you. It marks the beginning of a relationship that lasts far beyond your college experience.

who are we?

We are passionate. We are courageous. We are loyal and bright. The women of Zeta Tau Alpha are many things, but above all, we are sisters. Founded in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the Theta Tau chapter has united women from all over the country under three single letters for years. Since 1979, Theta Tau has formed relationships, trained leaders, and introduced women to their forever friends. It is more than a sorority. It is a family, and it is our home.

At ZTA, we welcome women into our chapter each fall through formal recruitment. This past fall, 97 girls ran home to us on bid day, and we couldn’t be more thrilled! We’re so excited to welcome more women into our sisterhood this year. If you're interested in our chapter there are many things you can do as a Potential New Member to learn more about us and to prepare for Panhellenic formal recruitment.

a message from our president

I am so honored to serve as President of Zeta Tau Alpha’s Theta Tau Chapter at UNC-Chapel Hill!

Coming to Carolina from Louisville, KY, I was hoping to find a place where I felt at home—and the women of Theta Tau gave me exactly that. From the very beginning, I experienced the warmth of our sisterhood and the opportunity to be part of something bigger than myself, especially through our commitment to Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. Since then, ZTA has given me so much more than I ever expected—study partners, travel buddies, and mentors, but most importantly, my closest friends. It has also given me the space to grow into a more confident, driven, and inspired version of myself. The women in this chapter continuously push me to be better, encourage me when things get difficult, and celebrate every success along the way.

I am so excited to serve this chapter and to live out our nine key values in everything I do. I hope to be a leader who is approachable and uplifting, and who helps every member feel valued, confident, and empowered to make the most of their time at UNC and in ZTA. This chapter is full of driven, thoughtful, and authentic women, and I feel so lucky to be surrounded by people who truly show up for one another. I’m especially excited for this year’s Franklin 5K and the chance to bring together the Chapel Hill community and our families, as well as Bid Day as we welcome new members into our chapter.

Thank you so much to the women of Theta Tau for trusting me with this role. To Executive Council 2024–2025, thank you for paving the way, and to our general advisor Kathy Womble for her constant guidance. And to Kat Dagley, thank you for being such an inspiring role model.

Zeta Love and Mine,

— Nicki Kaplan, Chapter President
